FAQ
- Why didn’t I get a Pulse Check notification?
- Open iOS Settings → Pulse Checks → Notifications and allow alerts. In the app, confirm whispers aren’t paused and your Pulse Window covers the time you expect — whispers only fire between Start and End; outside that they’re skipped until the next in-window check-in. If you previously denied permission, use Settings in the app to open system settings and turn notifications back on.
- Why didn’t I get a welcome nudge after adding someone?
- The short welcome Pulse Check only fires if you add someone during your Pulse Window. Outside Start–End, it’s skipped; normal whispers resume at the next in-window check-in time.
- Does Pulse Checks send texts for me?
- No. Pulse Checks never sends SMS or iMessage on your behalf. When you tap Wave or Message (or pick inspiration), the app opens Apple Messages with your words ready — you tap Send. Reminders only nudge you; sending always happens in Messages, under your control.
- Why do I need to link a contact?
- Wave and Message both open Apple Messages with the right person already filled in — and that phone number or email comes from Contacts. Link a contact that has one. Pulse Checks doesn’t store their phone or email; it keeps a small reference and looks those up live from Contacts when you need them. A display name / nickname is optional once they’re linked.
- Why can’t I search for a contact?
- Pulse Checks opens Apple’s Contacts picker so you deliberately choose who to add. From the Board, Add Someone lets you pick one person (a contact) or several (a group chat). In that sheet, use the search field at the top to type a name or number — then tap Done. Pulse Checks doesn’t auto-match contacts from typing in the app. Use Add Whisper when you want a self-nudge with no contact.
- Is my data private?
- Yes. Your board lives on your iPhone. There’s no Pulse Checks account and no Pulse Checks server where we can see your people, notes, or check-ins. What you add stays with you (unless you turn on Apple’s iCloud sync for the app, which is managed by Apple — not by us).
- What does Mute do?
- Mute (on a person or from the Lock Screen) is a one-time “I’m current” tap — it refreshes their pulse without opening Messages. That’s different from the Muted section: moving someone there from the overflow menu pauses the relationship on an ongoing basis.
- My whisper showed a generic message without a name.
- If App Lock is on and “Show names on Lock Screen” is off, Pulse Checks uses private notification copy so names and notes stay off the Lock Screen.
- Birthday Reminder doesn’t appear.
- The toggle shows only when the linked Contacts card has a birthday. Add one in Contacts and Pulse Checks picks it up automatically on the next refresh — no relink needed. Birthday reminders stay opt-in.
- Inspiration drafts look off or Apple Intelligence isn’t working.
- On-device inspiration needs Apple Intelligence where available, and your device language must match Siri language. Check Siri language under Settings → Siri & Search → Language. Otherwise Pulse Checks falls back to built-in drafts you can still edit.
- I denied Contacts access. What breaks?
- Without Contacts permission, Pulse Checks can’t link people or look up phone/email for Wave and Message, and birthday reminders that depend on Contacts won’t work. To turn it back on: iOS Settings → Pulse Checks → Contacts → Full Access (or Allow).
- How do I restore Premium?
- Open Settings in the app and use Restore Purchases with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. Purchases are managed by Apple; you can also review subscriptions in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- How do I cancel Premium?
- Cancel through Apple, not inside Pulse Checks. Go to iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, choose Pulse Checks (or Premium), and cancel. Your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- What happens if my Premium subscription ends?
- Your board stays put — notes, people, check-in history, and settings are not deleted. You just lose access to Premium-only features until you subscribe again (and free-tier limits may apply).
- Will my board come back on a new phone or after I reinstall?
- If you were signed into iCloud and Pulse Checks could sync through Apple’s private iCloud container, reinstalling or moving to a new device with the same Apple ID can restore your board. If iCloud sync wasn’t available on the old device, your data lived only there and will not carry over after a reinstall — there’s no Pulse Checks cloud account to pull from.
- How do I erase my data?
- Use the erase / reset controls in Settings — that removes your board data from this device — or delete the app. If you used iCloud sync, also review iCloud data for Pulse Checks under your Apple ID settings.
